History and Hard Knocks

Two events this Sunday to visit with your camera.

Greater Houston Preservation Alliance will give a historical walking tour of the Binz area. The area was developed in the 1910s and features several houses designed by well known architects. Tickets go on sale starting at 5:30 pm with the tour beginning at 6:00 pm.

Members of Austin's roller derby pay our ladies a visit this weekend at the Verizon Theater. Houston Roller Derby's HaRD Knocks will take on Austin's Texecutioners as well as a battle between the Stars vs. the Stripes. An after party will be held at Mezzanine. Doors open at 4 pm, bouts start at 5 pm.

Celebrate the Fourth

Looking for a place to celebrate the 4th, camera in tow? Here are some options around town.

July 4th Celebration at Bayou Bend
Flag demonstrations, a fife & drum performance, colonial soldiers, oversized Declaration of Independence, cake and refreshments. Free. 1 - 5 p.m.

Chevy's Freedom Over Texas
The city of Houston's official celebration. Runs from 4-10pm with the largest land based fireworks in the US beginning at 9:30 pm. Tickets $5 before 5 pm, $8 after 5 pm. Eleanor Tinsley Park.

Houston Symphony: Star Spangled Salute
The symphony presents a musical salute to Independence Day followed by fireworks. Free. Miller Outdoor Theater

Galveston: Fourth of July
37th & Seawall, beginning at 9:15 pm.

Red, Hot & Blue Festival
The Woodlands

Fireworks also at Sylvan Beach, Clear Lake, and Kemah.

Visit Bayou Bend, Rienzi and private homes in the River Oaks area showing off the beautiful azalea in all it's glory.
