Fotofest Seminars

Fotofest is just around the corner and there are two workshops on the schedule.

TUESDAY, March 11, 2008
CAREER BUILDERS AND ART MAKERS
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. DoubleTree Houston Downtown
(Second Floor Meeting Room)

$150 registration fee. Lunch included with registration.

This one-day seminar will offer participants interested in making a career as an artist the opportunity to learn from key decision-makers on the business of being an artist. Members of the photographic arts industry will benefit by gaining insights into market segments that can increase the impact of their activities in these fields. Photographers and professionals from key areas of the photography world will talk about how to take advantage of different venues to support your art work. Time will be reserved for question and answer periods with the speakers. Handouts include Marketing Resources; Information on Non-profit Spaces and Festivals

This one-day seminar offers artists an inside look at the options available in photo book publishing today and how to take advantage of these tools. Industry professionals will give presentations on many aspects of today’s publishing industry, printing on demand, handmade artist books, and case studies of successful book making ventures. Artists and editors will share their experiences with limited edition books as well as more traditional publishing opportunities. Handouts include Marketing Resources, Publisher Resources, and Publishing Contracts.

National Geographic comes to town

National Geographic is coming to town to help you with your nature photography.

See inspired photos and learn the methods our experts used to create them. Find out how to sharpen your skills and fine-tune your technique to turn your nature photos from so-so to so spectacular. Let Eddie and Michael show you how to capture the spirit of nature whether you’re in Big Sur or your own backyard.

Eddie is Eddie Soloway, nature photographer and lecturer and Michael is Michael Melford, National Geographic Traveler photographer. The seminar will be at the University of Houston on Saturday March 15th, 2008 and run from 9 am to 4 pm. Cost is $195. You can find out more information here.
