Fall Festival season is just around the corner. This is a great time to live in Houston and take advantage of all the great activities that this city has to offer. One thing I have really enjoyed about photoblogging is that it has got me out and about to these festivals. Last year I hit three major fall activities: The Ballunar Lift-Off, The Wings Over Houston Airshow and the Greek Festival.
Obviously the Ballunar Lift-Off is a wealth of photographic opportunities all three days. HERE is the link to the website with schedule information. So much to see and so much to do! The main event I saw last year was the balloon glow and it was great. A possible group meet-up has been mentioned HERE. If you are planning on going to the Ballunar Lift-Off leave a message in that post and we will fine tune details as we get closer.
The Greek Festival was very interesting for me. I need to work on getting more comfortable shooting in crowds where cameras aren't common (unlike the Ballunar Festival) and taking pictures of people. I saw lots of interesting photographic opportunities around me, but I did not take advantage. Some of my favorite photos that I did manage to take were from the Greek dances. I know I can do better, so I will definitely be back again to photograph and of course pick up a couple of dozen Kourambiedes, the best cookies on earth. Greek Festival information is HERE.
Finally my favorite festival of all. The Wings Over Houston Airshow Festival. Way before I was a photoblogger, blogger, or even had a website I have been going to the Houston Airshow. I grew up in the Valley with the Confederate, now Commemorative, Air Force so airshows were and are a big part of my life and I NEVER miss this one. Obviously this is another great place to take pictures. I even managed to get some decent shots last year out of my little Canon Powershot. This year the Canadian Snowbirds will be the featured act. Airshow Information is HERE.
Oh No! While I was writing this I realized the Airshow and the Greek Festival are the same weekend. I guess that means I will be hustling over to the Greek Festival Friday evening to pick up my Kourambiedes, because Saturday and Sunday I will be sitting front row at the Airshow!
This is why we must plan ahead! :-)
So what other events coming up in the fall should we be planning for? What festivals do you frequent and what should Houston Photobloggers definitely not miss?
Awesome!! I so absolutely love the Greek festival, in all of it's weight gaining glory. As for the airshow, I've been to many many many others (Oshkosh EAA, Paris, etc.) but never to Wings Over Houston (that I can remember at least). Can't wait to see it this time around. Thanks for the reminder!
